"I support the initiative of European liberals to deprive the Russian delegation of voting rights in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Such a decision will become a signal to the Russian authorities about a solidary evaluation of their actions in regard to Ukraine by all the European institutions", - Mikhail Kasyanov stated in Strasbourg at the PACE session.
During his short stay in Strasbourg Mikhail Kasyanov took part in the sitting of the ALDE group in PACE dedicated to discussing the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia.
European liberals came up to the agreement that after the decision that will be made on Thursday, April 10th, about withdrawing voting rights of the Russian delegation, the next initiative will be stripping Russia's delegation of all its powers in the PACE.
During this discussion Mikhail Kasyanov stressed that Russian liberals are absolutely against bringing up the matter of excluding Russia from the Council of Europe. He argued that it was not Russia who was to blame for violating international law and creating threats to European security, but the current Putin regime. He pointed out that "stripping the powers of the Russian delegation, representing the illegitimate Parliament of the Russian Federation, formed up as a result of the so-called elections in December 2011, is an absolutely correct initiative".
Mikhail Kasyanov also met with the PACE President Mrs Anne Brasseur and spoke at the press-conference held by the European People's Party and ALDE.
