Co-leader of RPR-PARNAS Mikhail Kasyanov is today in Strasbourg at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). He spoke at the sittings of factions and had a number of meetings with the heads of the Assembly and the Council of Europe.
Speaking at the conference "Russia and Council of Europe values" organized by the PACE Kasyanov stated that "the war unleashed by Putin in Ukraine has hung up Russia's future". Pursuing this policy domestically and internationally is endangering the integrity of Russia itself. The current regime is becoming increasingly dangerous to the European security.
Kasyanov also stated that he together with Nemtsov in November 2014 called on the democratic forces in Russia to consolidate around the European choice for Russia based on the universal values of the Council of Europe. Today, Kasyanov underlined, this consolidation has taken place.
"Despite all the complications and the seeming dead end of the situation in Russia, I and Boris Nemtsov were always optimistic about turning the country back to the path of democracy. Even now I am remaining to be an optimist and want our friends in Europe to view Russia's future in the same way", - he concluded.
Mikhail Kasyanov met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbj rn Jagland, PACE President Anne Brasseur, EPP and ALDE Groups. Both the groups supported Kasyanov's initiative to nominate Boris Nemtsov for Vсclav Havel Human Rights Prize.
