Opposition coalition formed

Press conference of opposition leaders - Mikhail Kasyanov, Boris Nemtsov, Vladimir Ryzhkov and Vladimir Milov was held in the office of the Solidarity movement September, 16.

The opposition leaders announced the formation of a coalition of democratic forces called "For Russia without arbitrariness and corruption," which included the Russian People's Democratic Union, "Solidarity" movement, Russian Republican Party and movement "For Democratic Choice". The Coalition Agreement signed by the representatives of these organizations says that the goal of the coalition is to prepare for the forthcoming parliamentary and presidential elections. Under the coalition agreement, the Coalition will later decide on the united nomination for the presidential election from the opposition.

Kasyanov, Nemtsov, Milov and Ryzhkov stressed that they were not talking about the dissolution or merger of the organizations they headed. "In any other country, we would get a registration [of new organization] in three days", - said Mikhail Kasyanov. According to him, the coalition members respect the existing law on political parties, though consider it totally unacceptable. In case of authorities' refusal to register the party coalition members intend to initiate protests. They also reported that the preliminary agreement was reached to invite United Civic Front by Garry Kasparov to join the coalition.

The new coalition is planning to hold in Moscow the first joint manifestation of protest on October 9.

Initially, the press conference was planned at the press center of RIA "Novosti", but an hour before the scheduled meeting with reporters the state news agency stated that the press conference cannot take place due to technical reasons. The coalition members believe that these were not technical, but political.
