Constituent assembly of regional branch of the People`s Freedom Party "For Russia without arbitrariness and corruption" was derailed In Kostroma. Party`s coordinator in Kostroma Oblast Nikolai Sorokin received a paper, which officially denied the right to hold a pre-agreed meeting in a Kostroma Philharmonic Hall, despite the fact that the contract was signed almost a month ago and corresponding notices to the regional offices of the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior were delivered last week. Reasons for refusal were not disclosed in the document, but informally referred to the directive by the Deputy Governor of the Kostroma region, Vladimir Topyrichev.
About three hundred people who came to the Philharmonic Hall wanted to hold a meeting in the street, but police did not let them do that qualifying the meeting as a non-sanctioned rally.
Statement by the Co-Chairmen of the People`s Freedom Party
We are convinced that independent political activity of citizens is a constitutional basis for democracy in our country. Therefore, the actions of regional authorities of the Kostroma region, which resulted in disruption of the meeting which was to establish a regional branch of the People`s Freedom Party "For Russia without arbitrariness and corruption", is an example of blatant abuse of power.
We demand to stop the violation of basic constitutional rights of citizens by the Russian authorities.
Mikhail Kasyanov, Boris Nemtsov, Vladimir Milov and Vladimir Ryzhkov
